France to Launch National Pass Patrimoine Giving Access to About 500 Sites

Designed to broaden public access to heritage, the card will supply partner sites with steady income for upkeep.

Overview

  • The Fondation du patrimoine announced the new Pass patrimoine on Thursday, June 11, and said it will go on sale at the Journées du patrimoine on 19–20 September 2026.
  • The annual pass will grant entry to roughly 500 sites at launch, including major châteaux such as Versailles, Chambord and Fontainebleau alongside smaller rural sites like La Maison Rozier and La Devinière.
  • The final price and full list of participating sites are still being finalized but the foundation expects the pass to cost around €100 per year.
  • National institutions and heritage groups including the Centre des monuments nationaux, Grand Palais‑RMN, the Institut de France and regional associations have joined the scheme, which will also offer members special visits, talks and concerts.
  • The initiative builds on the foundation’s recent fundraising gains and a 2019 pilot, and aims to increase visits to under‑seen sites while providing partner sites with regular revenue to fund maintenance and reduce reliance on public budgets.
