France Temporarily Lifts Weekend Ban on Fuel Tankers to Protect Station Supplies

The move is a preventive step tied to risks from the Middle East conflict.

Overview

  • An order in the Journal officiel on Saturday lets tanker trucks over 7.5 tonnes deliver to stations from 10:00 May 16 to 10:00 May 18.
  • The waiver also allows empty return trips so trucks can cycle quickly between depots and forecourts.
  • Officials say the goal is to prevent any risk of fuel supply disruption linked to the war in the Middle East.
  • Under normal rules, only stations on motorways or at airports and seaports and river ports are exempt from Sunday and holiday bans on heavy trucks.
  • The measure repeats an April 9 authorization that covered weekends and holidays through May 11 after about 13% of stations ran low after Easter.
