Overview
- Reinforced surveillance that began on May 1 and ran through May 25 identified 92 imported arbovirus cases in metropolitan France: 79 dengue, 12 chikungunya and one Zika.
- No autochthonous cases of dengue, chikungunya or Zika have been detected so far during this reinforced surveillance period.
- The tiger mosquito Aedes albopictus is now established in 83 departments and is active from May to November, lengthening the seasonal window for possible local transmission.
- The Ministry of Health has issued an urgent call for clinicians to test for arboviruses even without a travel history and to report suspected cases quickly so rapid epidemiological and entomological investigations can trigger local vector-control measures.
- Authorities stress the risk is heightened after a record 2025 that saw more than 800 local chikungunya cases, and they warn that prompt diagnosis, reporting and targeted mosquito control where imported cases appear are the best defenses against new local outbreaks.
