Fox Den Undermines Brandenburg Rail Embankment and Halts Service Between Velten and Kremmen

Deutsche Bahn says it will excavate about 30 metres down to the den, then compact and rebuild the embankment while replacement buses run through May 28.

Overview

  • A newly discovered fox den underneath the rail embankment between Velten and Kremmen has left the track unstable and forced Deutsche Bahn to close that section for safety.
  • Regionalexpress RE6 and Regionalbahn RB55 have been shortened so RE6 runs only to Kremmen and RB55 runs only to Velten, with replacement buses bridging the gap.
  • Passengers traveling from the northwest to Velten must change in Kremmen because RE6 replacement buses do not stop in Velten, adding a required transfer for affected journeys.
  • Deutsche Bahn plans to remove roughly 30 metres of embankment down to the depth of the den, compact the site and then rebuild the ballast, embankment and track; work is described as ongoing.
  • Replacement bus service is scheduled through May 28 to maintain connections while repairs proceed and the repair approach follows standard practice of excavating to stable ground, compacting, then rebuilding the trackbed.
