Four-Year-Old Girl Dies After Sledding Accident at Quebec Cross-Country Ski Club

Ontario's coroner has opened an investigation into the death.

Overview

  • Police said the child was injured on Feb. 22 at Nakkertok in Val-des-Monts while being pulled in a sled by an adult skiing downhill.
  • The adult fell on top of her during the run, causing critical injuries reported by MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police.
  • First responders performed CPR at the scene, and she was taken to hospital and later transferred to CHEO in Ottawa.
  • Authorities confirmed on March 2 that she died of her injuries, and Ontario's coroner is now investigating.
  • The case comes about two weeks after a separate regional skiing fatality involving a 13-year-old whose clothing became caught on a chairlift.
