Four Wheels of Virar–Bharuch MEMU Derail at Bhilad, MumbaiGujarat Traffic Halted

The derailment shut the busy MumbaiGujarat corridor for about five hours and has led Western Railway to order a formal inquiry.

Overview

  • The front driving motor coach of Train No. 19101 Virar–Bharuch MEMU ran off the rails while entering Platform 1 at Bhilad at about 6:27 a.m. on Tuesday when four wheels of the coach derailed.
  • Railway emergency teams including an Accident Relief Train and ARME were dispatched from Valsad and engineering crews began re-railing the coach and inspecting tracks immediately.
  • Operations on the MumbaiGujarat corridor were regulated, with Train No. 19101 short-terminated at Bhilad and Train No. 69150 cancelled, causing delays and rescheduling of suburban and long-distance services.
  • The obstruction on the common loop line was cleared by about 11:15 a.m. and Western Railway reported that both up and down lines were fully restored roughly five hours after the incident with no injuries reported.
  • Western Railway has ordered a detailed inquiry to determine the cause and has set up an internal committee while commuters and long-distance passengers are advised to check NTES and official channels for any schedule changes.
