Four U.S. Citizens Arrested in Linked ISIS Material‑Support Cases

Prosecutors say online chat groups, small cryptocurrency transfers and a purchased VPN were used to try to buy drones and other tools for attacks on U.S. troops or U.S. targets.

Overview

  • Federal agents arrested three men on June 5 on charges that they sent about $2,040 to an individual they believed was an ISIS member to buy drones and rocket‑propelled grenades for attacks on U.S. service members.
  • A separate case in New Jersey produced the arrest of Mohamed Sagha, who is accused of buying and sending a virtual private network to a person he thought was in ISIS and of discussing attacks on places of worship or a National Guard site.
  • One defendant in the Kansas/California matter, Bareen Dzayee, is a recent U.S. Navy service member who served aboard the USS John S. McCain, which prosecutors say raises concerns about radicalization among people with military experience.
  • Court filings say the suspects used Discord and other messaging platforms from 2025 into 2026 to pledge allegiance to ISIS, discuss travel to ISIS territory, and plan ways to conceal payments using cryptocurrency methods and VPNs.
  • The cases were built by multi‑office FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces working with local police and the DOJ and carry a maximum penalty of about 20 years in prison and large fines if defendants are convicted.
