Overview
- Heavy rain with strong winds brought down the roof of a rented house in Moratagi village in Vijayapura district, killing four family members as they slept.
- The victims were identified as Gurunath Badiger, 35, his wife Jyoti, 28, and their daughters Kalamma, 13, and Keerthi, 9.
- Sindagi police and Fire and Emergency Services led recovery work at the site, where mud and debris buried the victims under the collapsed roof.
- Officials said the mud roof made the rescue difficult because soil from the structure piled over the bodies and slowed clearing of the rubble.
- The deaths follow other recent rain-related collapses in Karnataka, including an eight-year-old killed in Yadgir and an April wall failure in Bengaluru that left seven dead and prompted a state probe and compensation.
