Four New Jersey Noncitizens Charged With Illegal Voting and Lying on Citizenship Forms

The filings highlight a task force crackdown on isolated cases of noncitizen voting.

Overview

  • Federal prosecutors in New Jersey said Friday that four noncitizen residents were charged with casting illegal ballots and lying on citizenship applications.
  • Prosecutors named David Neewilly, Jacenth Beadle Exum, Idan Choresh, and Abhinandan Vig, alleging Neewilly voted in 2020 and 2024, Beadle Exum and Vig in 2020, and Choresh in 2022.
  • The complaints cite federal laws on voting by a noncitizen (18 U.S.C. §611) and on false statements and unlawful procurement of citizenship (18 U.S.C. §§1015, 1425), which carry possible prison terms if convicted.
  • The U.S. Attorney’s Election Integrity Task Force led the cases with FBI Newark, Homeland Security Investigations, and USCIS, and initial court appearances occurred on April 22 for Neewilly and May 1 for the others.
  • Officials said the move protects elections, and independent reporting notes that voter fraud is rare as social media mocked the small number of cases; all four defendants are presumed innocent.
