Overview
- Armed men opened fire in Xicotlán, Chilapa, during a Monday morning ambush, killing four members of the Indigenous organization CIPOG-EZ.
- Attackers arrived in a white armored pickup and shot the victims at a construction site where they had reported for bricklaying work.
- The dead were identified as Bernardino Hilario Ocotlán, Ernesto Hilario Ocotlán, Oscar Villalba, and Isaías Morales Lucas, who helped lead a local community police structure known as CRAC-PF.
- CIPOG-EZ blames an organized-crime group, says these killings are part of 67 member deaths since 2018, and alleges an Army post nearby did not stop or respond to the gunmen.
- The group says Isaías Morales Lucas sought federal protection for more than two years without success, a failure they link to growing regional violence that also saw seven mutilated bodies left in Olinalá days earlier.
