Four Delhi IT Professionals Killed After Car Hits Parked Canter in Rampur

An active police probe is under way using CCTV and forensic evidence to establish how the crash occurred.

Overview

  • The crash occurred early Saturday when a car carrying members of a 12-person Delhi group returning from a company reward trip struck a canter parked on a Rampur district road, killing four occupants and seriously injuring three.
  • Police identified the dead as Abhishek Agnihotri, Kartik Rajput, Neeraj Singh and Gulbuddin and named the injured as Kamal, Vishal and Jatin; the survivors were treated first at a local community health centre and then referred to the Rampur district hospital.
  • Colleagues said the two-car party had stopped earlier for a tyre puncture about one kilometre before the site and one colleague moved to the other vehicle before the crash, which left the car badly mangled and required locals to pull trapped passengers from the wreckage.
  • Superintendent of Police Somendra Meena said police have seized the damaged car and the canter, moved both vehicles to Mandi Samiti premises, ordered postmortems and are reviewing CCTV and forensic evidence as the investigation continues.
  • Police will examine factors such as road visibility, vehicle condition and why the canter was parked there, and their findings could lead to changes in local road-safety enforcement or parking rules if negligence is found.
