Four Delaware State Students Sought After Rehoboth Beach Takeover

Felony riot and conspiracy warrants target alleged organizers with police committed to continued monitoring of future gatherings.

Overview

  • The May 19 takeover on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk drew large crowds that led to a stepped-up police presence, multiple arrests and some businesses closing early.
  • Rehoboth Beach Police have issued felony warrants charging four Delaware State University students with intent to commit or facilitate a riot and second-degree conspiracy.
  • Three students — Angelin A. Clauvil, Xander Nicholl and Keyon D. Scott — turned themselves in, were arraigned and released on their own recognizance, and one student, Eric Barnett, remained at large with no active search reported.
  • Officers from multiple agencies, including Delaware State Police and nearby municipal departments, said arrests at the scene were for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, underage drinking and public marijuana use and that there is no known ongoing danger to the public.
  • City leaders and the university have deferred to law enforcement, and officials warned that focusing charges on alleged organizers is intended to deter future unsanctioned social-media-promoted takeovers that threaten safety and local businesses as summer tourism begins.
