Four-Day Forest Search in Linnemann Cold Case Ends Without Findings

New forensic review led police to the Wattenbeker Gehege, where a dog alert at a borehole prompted excavation that yielded nothing.

Overview

  • The Cold Case Unit of Schleswig-Holstein’s state police searched the Wattenbeker Gehege from February 3 to 6 with about 30 officers, six cadaver dogs, boreholes and an excavator.
  • Cadaver dogs showed interest around one borehole, but after targeted digging the team found no remains and lifted the closure of the forest area.
  • Investigators continue to treat the 2014 disappearance of 28-year-old mechanical engineering student Horst Georg Linnemann as a suspected homicide.
  • Linnemann was last seen on December 15, 2014, by his girlfriend in Neumünster, and his dark-blue Golf IV was found in Hamburg five days later.
  • Police and prosecutors are renewing their public appeal, offering a €1,500 reward and asking for tips at 0431/160-42852, including sightings, information on a yellow-tarped trailer, the vehicle’s users or storage locations, and any unusual activity near the forest.
