Overview
- Police responded to a 911 report about a disturbance that may have involved a gun and went to an apartment on the 300 block of Mark Avenue on Monday, where they learned a man had been shot.
- The wounded man was driven by a private party to Essentia Health–Fosston, flown by air ambulance to Essentia Health in Fargo, and the Cass County coroner later confirmed he died from a gunshot wound.
- Officers found and arrested 22-year-old Cory Burnette Jr. inside the apartment without incident and booked him on probable-cause counts of second-degree assault and discharge of a firearm.
- The Fosston Police Department is leading an active investigation with assistance from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the State Patrol and the DNR, and officials say there is no ongoing danger to the public.
