Fort Worth Water Main Rupture Triggers Boil Water Advisory

A pressure drop that can allow bacteria into the system means tests must clear before the advisory is lifted.

Overview

  • City crews isolated a ruptured 24-inch transmission main and began repairs after pressure fell below regulatory minimums, prompting the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to require a precautionary boil water notice.
  • The advisory covers portions of the near northside in the Northside 2 pressure plane and parts of the area around Lake Worth and does not apply to residents inside the municipal boundaries of River Oaks or Sansom Park.
  • Officials advised customers in the affected zones to boil water to a rolling boil for two minutes before drinking, cooking, making ice, or brushing teeth and urged extra caution for children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems.
  • The city opened a bottled-water distribution site at the North Tri-Ethnic Center, 2950 Roosevelt Ave., with a one-case-per-vehicle limit and set hours running from noon to 10 p.m. Monday and resuming at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Utility staff will collect bacteriological samples across the affected area with results expected in about 24 hours and will rescind the notice only after all samples pass; an interactive address-search map and a Water Customer Contact Center are available for residents with questions.
