Overview
- Craig Williams admitted at Southwark Crown Court on Monday that he cheated at gambling by using confidential information to place three bets of £250, £100 and £22.50 on the date of the 2024 general election.
- Amy Hind, wife of a Conservative deputy digital director, also pleaded guilty and is due to be sentenced on October 23, 2026 after prosecutors dropped a separate charge against her husband.
- Prosecutors told the court they will withdraw three additional cheating charges against Williams at his sentencing and that he will not be sentenced until co-defendants have had their trials.
- Thirteen other defendants, including party officials and a former Met police officer, pleaded not guilty and face trials set for September 2027 and January 2028 under the Gambling Commission’s Operation Scott.
- The case stems from referrals after unusual pre-announcement bets on the July 4, 2024 election date and raises questions about misuse of privileged political access, possible criminal penalties and damage to public trust.
