Former Plymouth Teacher Jailed for 3 Years 9 Months for Sex Offences Against Two Pupils

Sentencing highlighted a grave breach of duty by a teacher whose non-recent offences were proven at trial.

Overview

  • Judge Robert Linford imposed a three-year-nine-month term, with eligibility for release on licence after half the sentence is served.
  • A jury found Anthony Redmond guilty of eight counts, including seven abuses of a position of trust and one indecency with a child, for offences at school, his home and a hotel in the early 2000s.
  • He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, given a 20-year restraining order barring contact with the two victims, and made subject to barring measures preventing roles of trust.
  • Victim statements described grooming, isolation and lasting harm, while the prosecutor said Redmond minimized his conduct and wrongly claimed it reflected a different culture.
  • Devon and Cornwall Police praised the victims for coming forward, and the school issued an apology and commissioned an independent review of safeguarding arrangements.
