Former Newton Schools Administrator Arrested in FBI Child-Enticement Sting

Prosecutors cite a months-long undercover probe that uncovered grooming, triggering a federal charge carrying up to life in prison.

Overview

  • Mark Nacht, 65, was taken into custody in Albany on Friday after driving from Massachusetts to meet what he believed was a 13-year-old in an FBI sting.
  • Investigators say he spent Dec. 18, 2025 through April 10 exchanging explicit messages with an agent posing as a relative and also groomed a second agent he thought was the child.
  • An FBI affidavit says Nacht admitted he traveled for sex with the purported minor, and agents reported finding children’s socks, lubricant, and condoms in his vehicle after a consent search.
  • Nacht faces a federal count of attempted enticement of a minor, which carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life if he is convicted.
  • Newton Public Schools said he left the district after a substitute role in December 2024, has had no access to buildings or systems since then, and there is no indication any Newton students were harmed.
