Overview
- The collision occurred on Monday 10 August 2026 on the N3 at Drummallaght and involved a car driven by James McHugh and a van.
- McHugh, in his early 60s and a member of Donegal’s 1992 All‑Ireland team, was fatally injured at the scene and his body was taken to Cavan General Hospital.
- His wife Noreen was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital in critical condition and died of her injuries the following day; the van driver, a man in his 50s, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Cavan General Hospital.
- Bailieborough gardaí have closed the scene for a forensic examination and are appealing for witnesses and any dashcam or other camera footage of the N3 between 1pm and 2pm on Monday.
