Overview
- Wayne County prosecutors and Detroit police say Eric Dwayne Anderson was arrested after an investigation linking a string of early-morning fires and thefts across a west-side Detroit neighborhood to a single suspect.
- Investigators allege Anderson forced entry into a Bryden Street home on July 10, stole a refrigerator, a stove and two puppies, then returned and set the house on fire, and that he set additional fires on July 15, July 29 and August 4.
- Prosecutors say that while firefighters were responding to the July 29 Bryden Street fire, Anderson entered a firehouse on West Chicago and stole multiple personal items belonging to firefighters.
- Court records show Anderson was arraigned over the weekend on multiple counts including several degrees of arson, second-degree home invasion, breaking and entering with intent, larceny, and alleged theft of financial transaction devices, and he was given a $500,000 bond with a reported GPS condition if released.
- Officials say no one was injured in the incidents, Detroit Fire Commissioner Charles Simms and Prosecutor Kym Worthy condemned the alleged acts, and pretrial hearings are pending as investigators and prosecutors continue the case.
