Former BYU and Vikings Quarterback Jaren Hall Retires at 28

The early exit reflects a brief NFL run limited by injuries, turnovers, roster churn.

Overview

  • Hall, who announced his decision Wednesday on Instagram, said he felt grateful for the journey and wrote that his heart is full as he closes the football chapter of his life.
  • He was a fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 and appeared in three NFL games that year, starting two and finishing with 168 passing yards on 13-of-20 with one interception and no touchdowns.
  • His first NFL start ended with a concussion, and in his next start against the Packers he threw an interception, lost a fumble, and was benched at halftime.
  • After Minnesota waived him before the 2024 season, he joined the Seattle Seahawks practice squad with several emergency QB3 elevations in December 2024, was released on April 29, 2025, then signed with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions in January 2026 before being removed from their roster.
  • Hall was a standout at BYU from 2019 to 2022 with 24 starts, 6,174 passing yards and 62 total touchdowns as the program’s first Black starting quarterback, and former teammates such as Puka Nacua posted messages congratulating him on retirement.
