Overview
- A Suffolk County grand jury indicted John Tam, 33, earlier this month on multiple counts of indecent assault and battery and indecent assault by a health care provider.
- Tam, a former nurse at Boston Children’s Hospital, is due to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on Monday, July 27, 2026.
- Prosecutors say two alleged assaults happened after surgery under anesthesia — on Sept. 19, 2022, a 15-year-old awoke to inappropriate touching, and on Jan. 2, 2025, security footage showed a nurse wheeling a patient to a single-stall bathroom before an alleged eight-minute assault.
- Investigators have named Tam’s prior employers, including Beth Israel Deaconess and UMass Memorial campuses, and are asking parents whose children were treated at those hospitals to contact the DA’s office if they have concerns.
- Officials have pointed families to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Suffolk County and the DA’s Child Protection Unit for support and reporting, and warned that the probe could expand as more potential victims come forward.
