Former Air Canada Captain Arrested Over Alleged Fake Pilot Licences

Authorities say the case exposes gaps in licence verification that could prompt tighter airline and regulator checks.

Overview

  • Police allege Geoffrey Wall, 59, used forged documents to present himself as holding an Airline Transport Pilot Licence while only holding a Commercial Pilot Licence.
  • Investigators say Wall was promoted to captain in 2009 and commanded more than 900 domestic and international flights between 2009 and 2025.
  • A routine licence check at Toronto Pearson in March 2025 uncovered inconsistencies that led to a probe called Project Icarus and to further searches and interviews.
  • Wall was arrested and charged with fraud and document falsification on June 1, 2026, and is scheduled to appear in court on June 29, 2026.
  • Air Canada removed him from flight duty, notified Transport Canada, says safety was not compromised, and has tightened licence-verification procedures while the criminal investigation continues.
