Overview
- The recall, announced Tuesday, covers 741,195 U.S. vehicles with park-by-wire systems and 10R80 transmissions across select 2018–2021 Ford and Lincoln models including F-150, Explorer, Expedition, Aviator and Navigator.
- Ford says certain downshifts can briefly engage the transmission parking pawl while a vehicle is moving, which can damage park components and leave a car able to move unexpectedly when shifted into Park.
- Dealers will update the Powertrain Control Module software at no charge and will inspect and replace any damaged park-system components when the remedy is performed.
- Ford told regulators it has received 24 reports of property damage and nine reports of injury linked to the defect and plans to mail interim owner notices around Aug. 3 with the full remedy expected to be available by April 2027.
- The recall highlights reliance on dealer software repairs and tracking after Ford recently reissued repairs because earlier software fixes were applied or recorded incorrectly, and the company also issued a separate recall for about 36,046 Bronco vehicles with unsecured fender flares.
