Ford Recalls 1.74 Million SUVs for Rear Camera Failures in Latest Safety Wave

The automaker is preparing software remedies with owner notifications to follow as updates become available.

Overview

  • Two new campaigns cover 2021–2026 Broncos and 2021–2024 Edges whose infotainment modules can overheat and blank the reverse image, and 2020–2024 Explorers and Lincoln Aviators plus 2020–2022 Escapes and Lincoln Corsairs that can display inverted camera views.
  • Ford will provide a software update for Bronco and Edge vehicles at dealers or over the air, with owner letters slated to begin March 30, while a remedy for the inverted-image issue is still in development with notices expected to start April 17.
  • Ford and NHTSA say there are no known crashes or injuries tied to the rear camera defects, though both issues are treated as safety risks because they reduce rear visibility required by law.
  • The rear camera actions follow separate recalls disclosed this week for 604,533 SUVs over windshield wiper motors that can fail and for 11,431 F‑250/F‑350 trucks with driveshaft weld issues, with dealer notices sent March 4 and interim owner letters for the wipers set for March 9–13 before a May repair window.
  • Industry tallies show Ford has recalled roughly 7.3 million vehicles across 17 campaigns so far in 2026, extending a high-volume pattern that has drawn heightened attention to warranty costs and quality performance.
