Overview
- Ford disclosed Thursday that the new midsize electric pickup will be called the Fathom with an MSRP of $28,350 for the standard-range model and a $1,595 destination fee that brings the on-road price to $29,945.
- The Fathom will be the first vehicle built on Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform at the Louisville Assembly Plant using an 'assembly tree' process Ford says speeds assembly and cuts parts and labor.
- Every Fathom will include hardware for BlueCruise hands-free driving, a large high-resolution touchscreen with native Apple Maps, bidirectional charging, a digital key and a front trunk in addition to the bed.
- Ford plans to open preorders in early 2027 and begin customer deliveries in fall 2027, though the company has not yet released battery capacity, certified driving range or fast-charging performance for the Fathom.
- The launch is a strategic reset after major 2025 EV writedowns and the Lightning pause, with Ford relying on domestic prismatic LFP cells from BlueOval Battery Park Michigan and new manufacturing methods to make an affordable electric truck viable.
