Overview
- Ford announced on Thursday that its new midsize electric pickup will be called the Fathom with a base MSRP of $28,350 and a total price of $29,945 after the $1,595 destination charge.
- The Fathom will be the first model on Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform and will be built at the retooled Louisville Assembly Plant using a three-branch 'assembly-tree' process Ford says can speed assembly by about 40 percent.
- Every Fathom will include a large high-resolution touchscreen with native Apple Maps, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, BlueCruise-capable hardware, bidirectional charging, a digital key, seating for five and more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4.
- Ford confirmed the truck will use domestically made prismatic LFP cells from BlueOval Battery Park Michigan but has not disclosed the standard battery’s capacity or the EPA range for the sub-$30,000 model.
- Pre-orders open early 2027 with customer deliveries beginning in fall 2027 and the vehicle’s success will hinge on Ford’s supply-chain execution, dealer uptake and whether consumers accept the as-yet-unnamed base-range performance after a companywide EV strategy reset that included a roughly $19.5 billion writedown.
