Foote Rotates Junior Boks XV For International Series Opener

The overhaul aims to give players who saw little action match experience to test combinations ahead of next month's Junior World Championship in Georgia.

Overview

  • Head coach Kevin Foote named a largely rotated South Africa U20 starting XV and bench for the opener against Chile while keeping eight members of the previous matchday 23, including captain Risima Khosa.
  • The team will play Chile at Rondebosch Boys' High with a 3pm kickoff on Thursday and the fixture will follow Georgia v Fiji at 1pm.
  • Foote said the changes are designed to give players who were not heavily involved in the U20 Rugby Championship international minutes and to build squad depth.
  • By overhauling most positions the coaching staff will test new combinations and evaluate less-used players whose performances could influence final Junior World Championship selections.
  • The SA U20 International Series runs through 30 May at school venues in Cape Town and Stellenbosch and includes matches against Fiji and Georgia to provide varied opposition for assessment.
