Overview
- A member of the public found a bag beneath Lower Hodder Bridge on Tuesday 11 August and officers recovered remains that were later confirmed to be those of a foetus.

- Detective Chief Inspector Jill Vescovi said the force is treating the matter primarily as a welfare concern and has made a direct appeal for the mother to come forward so she can be offered support.
- Police have asked anyone who was in the area between 9–11 August or who has dashcam or photographic footage to call 101 quoting log 864 and are especially keen to speak with a man seen with two children between about 1pm and 3pm on the day of the discovery.
- The Force Major Investigation Team is leading an early-stage inquiry and local residents have reported a visible police presence as officers continue enquiries to establish facts and offer care where needed.
