Florida Poll Finds Online Sports Betting Common, Expansion Unpopular

The findings point to voter unease about game integrity, signaling a preference for tighter rules.

Overview

  • The UNF/Sport IMPACT Jax survey, released Thursday, polled 823 Florida voters Jan. 30–Feb. 3 with a ±4.2-point margin and found 24% have ever bet online and 21% did so in the past year.
  • Only 15% favor expanding legal sports betting in Florida, while 46% want tighter limits and 37% prefer the current rules.
  • Concerns about fairness run high, with 57% worried about athletes betting on their own games and 82% sometimes questioning whether player or referee calls are influenced by gambling.
  • Online betting is concentrated on a few apps, as 67% of bettors use Hard Rock Bet most and 12% cite DraftKings, and 80% wagered on the NFL in the past year.
  • Most bets are small but marketing pulls bettors in, with 43% typically staking $1–$10, 96% seeing ads, 73% betting because of a promotion, only 10% very confident they can profit, and 30% reporting a single-day loss over $100.
