Florida Man Arrested After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Drivers in U.S. 331 Road-Rage Incident

Deputies say the Bonifay resident, a convicted felon, refused to speak with investigators.

  • Deputies responded around 1 p.m. on Feb. 8 to reports of a man pointing a firearm at drivers while traveling north on U.S. 331 in DeFuniak Springs.
  • Investigators say the driver sped, honked, passed the victims, stopped in front of them, then displayed a handgun and pointed it at the occupants.
  • Officers located a white Ford Explorer, and the suspect placed a black handgun on the vehicle as he exited; two metal knuckles were found in his pockets, authorities said.
  • Blackie Alvarez, identified in reports as 33 or 34 and from Bonifay, was charged with two counts each of false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of unlawful carry of a concealed weapon, and driving without a license.
  • He is being held on a $235,000 bond, and authorities say he also has an outstanding Bay County warrant for failure to pay child support.
