Overview
- A 31-year-old woman, later identified by the FWC as Brittany Clark of Orlando, was attacked while swimming with friends in about three feet of water in the Econlockhatchee River on June 28.
- Her boyfriend, Chance Allison, fought to free her as the alligator performed a violent "death roll," and emergency 911 audio and a medical examiner’s report describe catastrophic limb injuries.
- Clark suffered severe trauma to both arms and died of her injuries while being transported to the hospital despite resuscitation attempts.
- FWC and partner agencies removed and euthanized two large alligators, about 12 to 13 feet long, and sent tissue samples for forensic DNA testing to determine which animal was responsible.
- Officials say there is no sign the victims provoked the animal, they warn all Florida waters can contain alligators during mating season and low water conditions, and the Barr Street Trailhead has been closed while the investigation continues.
