Overview
- A sudden, intense monsoon downpour turned Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area into fast, debris-charged torrents on Saturday, Aug. 29, washing out footbridges and campgrounds and trapping visitors below the rim.
- Authorities have recovered two bodies and confirmed at least two deaths while the NPS is seeking information about roughly 15 people who may be missing or unaccounted for; families have identified some victims and reported others still missing.
