Overview
- MnDOT closed I-90 between Highway 218 in Austin and Highway 16 in Dexter and closed Highway 43 between Highway 28 and Highway 24 after flash flooding struck Thursday, July 2.
- Both agencies said lanes were expected to reopen around 3 p.m. but cautioned that the situation remained changeable and closures could be extended.
- The Mower County Sheriff’s Office warned that floodwaters can be deeper than they look, may hide washed-out pavement or debris, and can quickly sweep vehicles off the road.
- Emergency crews made at least one roadside rescue and officials urged drivers to obey barricades, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow directions from first responders.
- MnDOT directed travelers to its 511 service and district social feeds for real-time detours and updates and said roads may need inspections and repairs after water recedes.
