Flamengo Begins Algarve Interseason With Friendlies Against River Plate, Lausanne and Benfica

Overview

  • Flamengo's delegation left Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, June 28, and began training in Lagos on June 29 before relocating to Estoi from July 6 as part of a planned two-week interseason.
  • The club will play three confirmed friendlies at Estádio Algarve: River Plate on July 3, Lausanne-Sport on July 8, and Benfica on July 11, with the squad due back in Rio on July 12.
  • Band has secured open-television rights to broadcast the matches while negotiations continue over pay-TV deals and the club will also stream coverage on FlamengoTV.
  • Uruguay internationals Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Mathías Varela and Nicolás De la Cruz were given short post–World Cup leave and will not join the group, and youngsters Lorran and Rayan Lucas were added after returning from loan.
  • Coach Leonardo Jardim plans to use the controlled schedule to rest players who did not go to the World Cup, sharpen tactics against quality opponents, and give extended minutes to youth as the season resumes.
