Overview
- A black Ford Tourneo van struck a five-year-old girl in the Springfarm Heights area of Newry at about 9.25pm on Sunday, June 21, and the child was taken to hospital where she later died.
- Officers arrested the van driver, a 40-year-old woman, at the scene and she remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
- Detective Inspector Stewart and the PSNI Collision Investigation Unit are leading the investigation and have closed Carnagat Road at its junctions with Springfarm Heights and Stony Hill during evidence gathering.
- Police have asked anyone who saw the collision or who has dash-cam or other footage to contact them on 101 or via the online form, quoting reference 1552 21/06/26.
