Overview
- Cadeler said it installed and fully commissioned the first of 197 XXL monopile foundations at Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 site off the Norfolk coast.
- This marks Cadeler’s first full-scope foundation transport and installation project, using its new A-class vessel Wind Ally and the Wind Orca for secondary steel.
- The service vessel Esvagt Froude supported commissioning, Boston Energy completed post-installation work, and Menck contributed to piling operations.
- Hornsea 3 will use 197 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD turbines, and Ørsted says these are its largest European monopiles, each built to carry a 15 MW turbine.
- The 2.9 GW wind farm is expected to power about 3.3 million UK homes from 2027, with ownership by Ørsted and Apollo-managed funds and Mubadala joining the investor group.
