First FCI Foodgrain Train Reaches Sairang, Marking New Rail Supply Link for Mizoram

The rice consignment underscores Sairang’s growing capacity as Mizoram’s rail logistics hub.

  • On March 3, a 42-wagon Food Corporation of India rake carrying about 25,900 quintals of rice from Punjab arrived at Sairang, with successful unloading confirmed by the Railways.
  • Mizoram food minister B. Lalchhanzova and Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena received the consignment at the station.
  • Sairang Terminal has handled more than 30 freight rakes to date, including cement (3.5 rakes), automobiles (2), fertilizers (0.5), stone chips (20.5) and sand (4).
  • Passenger demand has surged, with the Sairang–Anand Vihar Rajdhani recording occupancy above 150% as tourist and regional services expand.
  • Indian Railways is introducing refrigerated parcel vans to transport horticultural and other perishable produce from Mizoram, broadening market access for local producers.
