Overview
- Firefox 148 will include an AI controls section on desktop, landing in Nightly first before the Feb. 24 rollout, with feedback invited on Mozilla Connect.
- A global "Block AI enhancements" toggle disables all current and future generative features, suppresses pop-ups or reminders, and preserves preferences across updates.
- Users can also manage five features individually: translations, alt text in PDFs, AI-enhanced tab grouping, link previews, and a sidebar chatbot.
- The chatbot option supports services such as Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Le Chat Mistral.
- Settings default to the global toggle being off and will mirror prior user choices, which Mozilla presents as fulfilling CEO Anthony Enzor-DeMeo’s opt-out commitment.
