Overview
- A fire broke out at Awel Y Mor Primary School on Wednesday, July 22, prompting staff to evacuate children and staff from the Lots of Tots holiday playgroup on site.
- Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from four stations and used breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a turntable ladder and a water bowser to extinguish the blaze.
- Firefighters reported the fire originated within the school's sandwich panels and left the scene at about 12:43pm after bringing the flames under control.
- The Lots of Tots group confirmed all children and staff were safe and announced the club will remain closed for the rest of the week while officials complete a full damage assessment.
- Sandwich panels are layered construction panels used on building exteriors, and the fire service said the blaze spread within those panels, which is now the focus of follow-up inspections and safety checks.
