Overview
- The fan festival began on Thursday, June 11, at Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park and will run for 39 days with free watch parties and live programming including a post-opening-match concert by Luis Fonsi.
- Organizers expect as many as 25,000 people per day and have set up large screens, local vendors, and first-come, first-served entry after online registration.
- Philadelphia has no on-site parking for the site and is urging fans to use SEPTA, the Philly PHLASH bus, or walk while SEPTA has boosted service and sponsor-funded late-night rides.
- The city and Philadelphia Parking Authority put in place license-plate-enforced residential permits, restricted parking zones, geofencing, and a designated rideshare drop zone at Eastern State Penitentiary to control traffic flows.
- Nearby museums, the zoo, and Eastern State are offering World Cup–themed programming and pop-ups, but Fairmount residents report mixed feelings over road closures, parking strain, and neighborhood disruption.
