FIA Rechecks ADUO Data After Red Bull Challenges Engine Ranking

The review delays final upgrade allocations that could grant rivals extra engine development and reshape 2027 entitlements.

Overview

  • Red Bull formally asked the FIA to recheck torque‑sensor data on Wednesday after provisional ADUO results, shared confidentially with teams, ranked Red Bull‑Ford as the internal combustion engine benchmark.
  • ADUO currently measures only ICE output via in‑car torque sensors, so the provisional ranking gave Mercedes one upgrade and Ferrari, Audi and Honda two upgrades while barring Red Bull from extra updates.
  • Ferrari is preparing immediate use of its ADUO allowances with planned engine packages targeted for Austria and Monza, and Audi ran a restricted demo at Neuburg that fuelled speculation it is evaluating an upgraded power unit.
  • Mercedes publicly backed the FIA’s process, saying the torque‑sensor data produced the result, while Red Bull and others have raised methodological and transparency concerns because ADUO does not assess electrical/ERS performance.
  • Two further ADUO review windows are scheduled after the Hungarian and Mexico City Grands Prix and their confirmed outcomes will determine final development tokens and the scope of manufacturers’ 2027 power‑unit work.
