FHP Trooper, Woman Hospitalized After Stabbing Leads to Shooting on Miami’s SR 836

Overview

  • Troopers responded around 5:30 a.m. to reports of a vehicle driving east in the westbound lanes of State Road 836 near Northwest 107th Avenue.
  • A trooper found the car in the grassy median and approached a woman who had a young child inside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
  • During the encounter, the woman brandished a knife and stabbed the trooper in the head, neck, and shoulder, prompting the trooper to fire and strike her.
  • Both the trooper and the woman were transported to HCA Kendall Trauma for treatment, and their specific conditions were not released.
  • Authorities said the woman has active warrants for child neglect, child abuse, and fleeing and eluding; DCF took custody of the child, and she is expected to be booked into Miami-Dade County Jail after medical release as the case remains under investigation.
