Fetus Found Discarded on Lewisville Lake Shoreline

Police say the remains appear to have been abandoned and the medical examiner will determine identity and whether the fetus was born alive.

Overview

  • A local resident reported finding human fetal remains along the Lewisville Lake shoreline and officers located the remains after responding to the call.
  • Police say a preliminary on-scene assessment placed the fetus at about five to six months' gestation and that it appeared to have been intentionally discarded.
  • Investigators turned the remains over to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, which is examining the body to establish identity, gestational age, and cause or manner of death.
  • The probe remains active and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Craig Holleman at cholleman@cityoflewisville.com or 972-219-3620, or to submit anonymous tips to Denton County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-388-TIPS.
  • Medical examiner findings will help determine whether the case becomes a criminal investigation and could shape possible charges, and the evidence collected at the scene will guide next steps for investigators and the affected community.
