Ferrari Luce Chassis 0 Sells for $40 Million in Charity Auction

The $40 million donation to the Ferrari Foundation was secured by a no-reserve, no-fee sale that forces a fresh look at collector demand for the marque’s first production electric model.

Overview

  • The Tailor Made first-production Ferrari Luce, designated chassis ZFF21BUA8T0338000 and known as Chassis 0, hammered for $40 million at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale on Sunday with the auction run without reserve and the buyer’s premium waived.
  • RM Sotheby’s and Ferrari confirm all proceeds will go to The Ferrari Foundation, and the car will return to Maranello for final assembly with delivery expected in the first quarter of 2027.
  • The one-off Luce featured unique Madreperla Semi-Gloss paint and bespoke interior materials as part of Ferrari’s Tailor Made program, and the company lists the model as a four-motor EV with about 1,050 cv, a 122 kWh battery and manufacturer-claimed 0–100 km/h in roughly 2.5 seconds.
  • The sale sets a new benchmark for a new car at auction, surpassing last year’s $26 million Daytona SP3 Tailor Made result and continuing Ferrari’s recent pattern of charity sales for one-off examples.
  • The result reframes the Luce’s contested rollout—criticized at its May reveal and linked to a short-term share dip and marketing changes—by showing strong collector willingness to pay large sums for provenance, exclusivity and potential tax advantages, and it leaves the industry watching how retail deliveries and order fulfillment affect brand perception.
