Feds Charge Twice-Deported Honduran in Charlotte Light-Rail Stabbing

The filing adds a mass-transit violence count that carries a potential life sentence.

Overview

  • Federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint charging Oscar Gerardo Solorzano-Garcia with illegal reentry and violence on a mass transportation system following the Dec. 5 LYNX Blue Line stabbing in Charlotte.
  • According to the complaint, witnesses and video indicate Solorzano-Garcia appeared intoxicated, argued with passenger K.D., produced a long knife, stabbed him in the chest, left the train, and was taken into custody by CMPD.
  • Authorities say Solorzano-Garcia has a 2012 robbery conviction, a 2016 aggravated-battery arrest, removals in 2018 and 2021, and a prior illegal-reentry conviction; the new mass-transit charge carries up to life in prison and illegal reentry carries up to 10 years.
  • He also faces state counts including attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, breaking/entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and intoxicated and disruptive behavior.
  • Victim Kenyon Dobie has raised roughly $100,000 for medical care via GoFundMe and was arrested Wednesday on unrelated October charges alleging assault inflicting serious bodily injury, assault on a pregnant woman, and communicating threats.
