Federal Team Sent to Manitoba’s Flood‑Ravaged Parkland to Support Cleanup

The deployment will supply logistics and volunteer relief to communities cut off by washed‑out roads, a closed regional hospital and mandatory evacuations.

  • Unusually heavy, repeated downpours in the Parkland region produced rapid overland flooding that washed out as many as 50 roads and closed all routes into Duck Mountain Provincial Park.
  • Swan River issued mandatory evacuations for its hardest‑hit neighbourhoods, saw hundreds of residents displaced, and its mayor publicly asked for military help as local volunteers reported exhaustion.
  • The Dauphin Regional Health Centre flooded, lost power and was forced to close, and all 54 patients, including an infant, were transferred to hospitals in Brandon, Winnipeg and other centres.
  • Manitoba requested federal assistance and Ottawa approved a small Canadian Armed Forces logistics team and a Team Rubicon Canada volunteer deployment while the Canadian Red Cross continues to provide support.
  • The province advanced $5 million to municipalities on top of earlier aid, officials warn total repair costs will reach tens of millions, and recovery work remains slow where rail lines, roads and access routes are still damaged and at risk from more showers.
