Federal Police Indict More Than 40 in Minas Gerais Mining Corruption Probe

Overview

• The Polícia Federal concluded two inquiries and in final reports sent to the Federal Public Ministry indiciated 34 people in Operation Rejeito and 17 in Operation Parcours, with the investigations completed on June 26.
• The lists of those indiciated include ANM director-general Mauro Henrique Moreira Sousa and ANM director Caio Trivellatto alongside mining entrepreneurs, engineers, consultants and public agents.
• Investigators say the scheme repurposed legally required recovery and mine-closure plans (PRAD/PFM) to mask ongoing commercial extraction in protected areas and documented environmental harm such as the destruction of the Taquaril spring and pits outside authorized limits at Serra do Curral.
• The PF reports the Rejeito network moved more than R$4 billion and used more than 40 companies as fronts to obscure beneficiaries and traceability of funds, while the Parcours probe estimates R$832 million in prejudice to the Union from the Serra do Curral case.
• The MPF in Belo Horizonte will decide whether to file formal charges and any prosecutions could trigger regulatory reviews, civil claims for environmental repair and political scrutiny of mining oversight that affects communities near the impacted sites.
