Overview
- A federal jury in Minnesota convicted Firomsa Ahmed Umar of arson, attempted arson, and possession of an unregistered destructive device for attacking Fletcher’s Ice Cream & Café, and jurors said he chose the shop because of its Pride flag.
- Prosecutors said he hurled Molotov cocktails on Oct. 19 and 20, 2025, with the first fire put out by workers from a nearby business and the second device failing to ignite.
- Trial evidence showed multiple witnesses identified Umar by his clothing and surveillance cameras captured his minivan near the shop during the second attack.
- Police arrested him soon after the second attempt and found a gas can, a lighter, and a third bottle containing an ingredient used to make improvised napalm.
- Sentencing has not been scheduled and a parallel state arson case is on hold following a joint investigation by ATF, Minneapolis police, the fire department, and the state fire marshal.
