Federal Gun Charge Filed Against Dallas Bridge Gunfire Suspect

Prosecutors cite a visa overstay with ballistic links to casings from the bridge.

Overview

  • Jose Alarcon-Sanchez, 18, now faces a federal count of unlawful firearm possession tied to his undocumented status, in addition to a Dallas Class A misdemeanor for discharging a weapon.
  • Agents say a search found a .380 pistol, a 9mm pistol, and three 5.56 AR-15 pistols, with one AR-15 pistol linked by ballistics to casings recovered at the New Year’s Eve scene.
  • A federal complaint notes Alarcon-Sanchez entered on a temporary visitor visa in May 2025 and did not extend it, and records his Jan. 1 arrest in Grand Prairie where officers found live rounds and an AK-47-style rifle.
  • Dallas police have arrested three suspects in the case: Anthony Acevedo is out on bond on a misdemeanor count, while Alarcon-Sanchez and Anderson Derce Lara remain held on immigration detainers.
  • Lara faces six aggravated-assault counts tied to a separate November road-rage shooting, and investigators say more than 100 shell casings were recovered as DPD, ATF, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office continue the probe.
